Ash is the quintessential girl bullied by her new step-family, but beyond that the tale branches off into the dark forest. While this is a twist on a beloved fairytale, it is just that…a twisted tale. the light kind of contrast you’d want in a dark romance so you can connect with both of them as they connect with each other. When he asks her to do some very twisted things, she always pushes back, which helps break up those otherwise tense moments, but it also gives us that chance to view deeper into both characters as well. That is one of the main things that Winston finds so attractive about Ash, her spirit and willingness not to break under his thumb. I love reading a powerful woman, especially one who isn’t afraid to stand up to a man, and especially one with Winston’s dark desires. Even in it’s most depraved moments I found myself chuckling and that is one of my favorite reasons for returning back to Webster’s books again and again.Īsh Elliott is no delicate flower. Webster fan, this story is captivating not only for it’s darkness, but also for it’s moments of levity. I was enthralled by Stroke of Midnight from the very beginning for so many reasons.Įven with being a K.
